Hello again gadget fans, welcome to the 106th episode of Technically Tech. The crew of Chase LaRue, Charlie Wolfenden, Shawn Ramsey, and Dan Long, is back in full force this week, so expect a good show.
This week on the show: Remember last year when we talked about CompUSA buying the farm? Well, looks like it's Circuit City turn to walk the green mile. Turns out they're hemorrhaging money. Too lazy and fat to carve your own pumpkin? Thanks to technology, you no longer have to! Opera ready to go on the iPhone, but Apple are being little bitches about it. What else is new. Like your Wii, but software prices got you down? Fear not! This isn't really news, but we're going to post it anyway. Two dumb bimbos discuss the Large Hadron Collider. And we're in countdown mode here at Technically Tech, waiting in tepid anticipation for the new Bond movie. Can it POSSIBLY live up to the unfettered genius that was Casino Royale? We can't wait to see. Questions? Comments? Send em' our way at technicallytech@gmail.com Technically Tech Episode 105
Welcome to another episode of Technically Tech, this will be our 105th. Shawn and I will be hosting this one, while Chase is still out of town.
In this episode we'll be talking about: Reviews finally hit for Apple's new shiny baby, here's Engadget's take. Have trouble getting up in the morning? Well now you'll have more trouble going back to sleep, with this thing. If you want super slow-mo on the cheap, Casio has an answer for you, in the EX-FH20. If you're as tired as we are of carrying all our gadgets aroun, BMW has a new prototype key that could lighten your burden. Steve, when we said we wanted The Beatles on the iPod, this isn't exactly what we meant. We suppose it'll have to do for now. ARM processors are the reason the iPhone...sucks? Guess so, according Intel. Not a fan of the iPhone? Well, you're in the minority. But if Apple's shiny little wunderkind isn't for you, RIMs new beast might do the trick. Monday, January 14, 2008Cozip iPhone Case![]() We got tons of free stuff from the show and one company in particular seemed out of place in a sense. We were walking down the Sands in the back and a company called Cozip had a small booth with tons of iPod and iPhone "backplates." They come in basically any color you can imagine as well. He had a sign and it said he was the number one product on Amazon for the search iPhone case. I thought he was wrong but sure enough he was not lying. His product is the number 1, 3, and 6 on Amazon. The man gave us some backplates and I must say I was pleasantly surprised by the quality. The sell for $14 on Amazon and here is a link to the search: Cowon A3 and Q5W
So I checked out one of my favorite companies in the portable media player world, Cowon, at CES this year and they have two, somewhat new, PMPs available for purchase. Most people already know about these two products as they were actually released last year but they were not available for purchase until this month.
![]() The Cowon A3 is an update to the Cowon A2, which is the device that I have owned for quite some time now. I actually did buy the A3 but I am not sure if I am going to keep it or return it for the Q5W. The specs are as usual with Cowon, endless. This A3 plays almost every codec known to man except the one that I really bought it for. It will play MKV's which most people know is how anime and HDTV and Movies are endcoded in. The problem is, is that it does not play H.264 (MKV) HP. It will play the MP type but not the HP. HP is what everything is encoded in so there was nothing I could get to play on the A3. The player is a lot better looking and the screen is absolutely gorgeous at 800x480 on a 4" screen. Check out the specs here: ![]() The other player is the Q5W. It has been out for a while but I did not ever get to test it out. It has the same endless list of codec support and tech specs like the A3, except this player has a 5" touchscreen that runs on top of Windows CE 5.0. This is a problem because 5.0 is about 3 years old, and that it is buggy like regular windows. It has all sorts of other features though and I believe I will be getting this one as opposed to the A3. Check out the Q5W here: Sleek Audio SA6 In Ear Earphones![]() Well, CES 2008 is done and I am going to start posting some items we saw at the show that deserve mentioning on the site. To start this off, I will be talking about the Sleek Audio SA6 In Ear Earphones. These are much like other companies earphones in that they block out most to all outside noise and stick into your ear with rubber fittings. Many companies like Shure, Klipsch, etc. have these types of products and I have been lucky enough to try almost every pair of high-end earphones out this year at the show and in the past. While at CES we were touring the Sands Expo Center when a man named David asked if we would like to try a pair of new earphones out and see what we thought about them. I was skeptical at first because, A. I did not know the company by name, and B. I was unsure of how these could possibly be any better than similar products from other companies. Well, I was surprisingly wrong and I am truly glad. I put the earphones into my ear and it was as expected, basically silent. David, who represents a marketing company was explaining how the company also makes hearing aids and that they are knowledgeable in the in ear audio market. The main difference that these earphones have is that they have interchangeable pieces that allow for extra bass or treble or even both. What you do is take a little rubber plug like thing for the bass and a rod for the treble. This allows for the listener to tune his or her listening experience based on what they prefer in general or specifically based on the music they are listening to at the time. For example, if you were listening to Hip-Hop you might want to put only the high bass plug in. If you were listening to classical music, you might want high treble or even high treble and bass. We all tried out the headphones with different songs and the various adjustments via the bass and treble plugs, and I have to say that these are probably the best earphones I have ever listened to. Earlier in the day, I tried out the new models from Shure that range from $100 to a whopping $500 and I was utterly disappointed. They were lacking so much range and I felt they were just pathetic. To be honest, I would rather listen to my free iPod earbuds then pay $500 for those supposedly "superior" earbuds. The SA6 Earphones are only $250 and in my mind, are worth every penny. I would recommend them to anyone who cares about the way their music and movies sound and does not want to pay exorbitant amounts of money to have that listening experience. Hopefully, we will be getting a pair of these in for review in the near future and we can put them through the test of durability, quality, and real world use in busy and crowded environments. Check out Sleek Audio's website for more details at: Wednesday, December 26, 2007Happy Holidays Everyone!

Well, unfortunately it looks like we won't be able to put up the posts from January till now. For some reason, I don't know why, but it is not the end of the world. The iTunes links still work fine, and I am going to retype the episode summaries for the last few episodes.
